The Story of the Lycian Way

When it comes to hiking in our country, the first route that comes to mind is the Lycian Way. The Lycian Way is the first long-distance walking path in our country, with a total length of 509 km. In 2015, this figure was increased to 535 km by adding new routes. It stretches from Fethiye to Antalya. This historic hiking trail was created by marking and mapping the paths located in the Teke Peninsula. On average, it takes 21 days to complete the Lycian Way.

The Lycian Way extends from Hisarönü in the Fethiye district of Muğla province in the west to Geyikbayırı in the Konyaaltı district of Antalya province in the east. The long-distance path is marked according to the French 'GR footpath' system, with intersections indicated by yellow direction signs. The routes are marked every 50 meters with rocks and tree stumps on both sides, and dirt paths are marked approximately every 200 meters along the route, especially at intersections, with white stripes on a red ribbon. Red cross signs indicate that there is a deviation from the path and that one should not enter the marked trail. The signs are periodically renewed by volunteers. Some sections of the Lycian Way are suitable for mountain biking. In some places, experienced downhill and single-track enthusiasts can carry their bikes on their backs to complete the entire route. However, it is also possible to use alternative forest and village roads to access the bike path, which is partially located on and parallel to the Lycian Way.
